Mendip Gliding Club is now a Junior Gliding Centre.  The purpose of a JGC is to enable and encourage young people to get actively involved in the UK's gliding movement.  The sport of gliding offers young people the opportunity to get involved in a different kind of sport, enjoy an activity that is outdoors and is available to all levels of ability.

We now offer a Junior Fixed Price to Solo.  The scheme is available to young people between the ages 15 to 25 and in full time education.  The scheme last for 12 months or 100 winch launches or until completion of the first safe and satisfactory solo flight, which ever comes first.  Three winch launches can be exchanged for one 2000 foot aerotow.

This scheme allows young people access to flying training, at a fixed cost and includes membership, all launch fees, all soaring fees (flight time) and instruction from our British Gliding Association fully qualified instructors.

To become a member of the Mendip Gliding Club Junior Gliding Centre, please download, print off and complete a membership application form here.  Post to Edward Gardener, our Membership Secretary with payment of £350.  As soon as the form and payment has been received, training can begin.

To help with the cost of the scheme, here are some suggested options.

- If a parent or legal guardian is in receipt of certain benefits, you may be eligible for a bursary of up to £300 applied for through your school.

Caroline Trust - A charity set up to encourage young people, especially women, to take up the sport of gliding and encourage and enable people with disabilities to participate in the sport.

Air Cadet Sponsorship - If you are in the Air Training Corps and have completed your Gliding Scholarship, you could be eligible  for a £200 Flying Credit to continue your gliding training.

For any further advice on these options, please either follow the links or contact the Mendip Gliding Club Junior Gliding Centre Liaison Officer.
