FAQs
What should I wear for my gliding experience?
Dress comfortably and in layers, as temperatures can vary throughout the day. We recommend wearing:
Warm clothing: Even on sunny days, it can get chilly at altitude.
Sturdy footwear: Trainers or hiking boots are ideal. Avoid sandals or high heels.
Clothes you don't mind getting dirty: The airfield can be dusty or muddy.
What happens if I need to reschedule my flight?
No problem! If you need to reschedule, simply log into our booking system, which you used to book/purchase your flight. From there, you can select a new available date that suits you. Please aim to give us as much notice as possible.
Can I record my flight?
Yes, you're welcome to record your flight! We can provide you with a secure lanyard to safely attach your phone. This ensures your equipment stays secure while you enjoy your flight.
Can I bring family or friends to the airfield?
Absolutely! Family and friends are welcome to join you at the airfield and watch your gliding experience from a designated viewing area. We recommend they bring a camera to capture the special moment.
What happens if the weather is bad on the day of my flight?
Safety is our top priority. If weather conditions are unsuitable for flying, we’ll contact you as early as possible to reschedule your flight at no additional cost.
How long does a gliding experience last?
We would normally recommend allowing an hour for the whole experience including briefing, preparation and the flight itself. There may on occasions be further delays if we’re e.g. waiting for a rain shower to pass or have a technical issue with an aircraft.
The length of the flight itself is extremely weather dependant. On a good day a glider is capable of staying airborne almost indefinitely, as long as a source of lift (ridge, thermal or wave) remains available. Unfortunately it’s rare that conditions are this good and we would usually expect that a trial flight would last between 5 and 30 minutes. An Aerotow launch releases the glider at a higher altitude than a Winch launch so will normally result in a longer flight. If no lift is found a Winch launch flight will generally last about 5 minutes, an Aerotow would be around 20 minutes including the time on tow. In better conditions these times will be longer, particularly for a Winch launch flight. We limit trial flights to a 30 minute maximum to ensure we’re ready for the next slot.
Do I need any prior experience to go gliding?
Not at all! Our experienced instructors will guide you through everything you need to know during a safety briefing before the flight. Just come ready to have an amazing experience.
Are there facilities at the airfield?
Our airfield offers:
- A waiting area for guests.
- Toilets and basic amenities.
- Tea/Coffee.
Do I need to sign a waiver before my flight?
Yes, all participants must sign a waiver and complete a short medical form to confirm they’re fit to fly. This will be provided on the day or sent to you in advance.
Can I purchase gift vouchers for gliding experiences?
Yes, we offer gift vouchers for gliding experiences! They make fantastic gifts for birthdays, anniversaries, or special occasions. Gift vouchers can be purchased directly through our booking system.
